Process Paper
King Louis XVI seemed like the perfect person to relate to the topic of Leadership and Legacy. He left such a prominent legacy due to his poor leadership “tactics.” He wasn’t a strong leader and wasn’t seen as good or adequate in the eyes of his people. In relation to his legacy, he was the last king of France, and wasn’t a good one. In his reign, there were many problems that he failed to solve; including the national debt, a large famine, an empty treasury and a corrupt government. King Louis XVI was a weak and inadequate leader who caused France to go bankrupt; subsequently, he sent the economy of France into a deep depression, which caused the French Revolution. His insufficient leadership ultimately ended in his execution.
Most of the research gathered came from secondary sources from the internet. A lot of these included articles about King Louis and Marie Antoinette’s life, and how they were viewed in their people’s eyes. The sources also gave information about what he did as a leader. Including how he made decisions, and what decisions he made. And ultimately how his decisions resulted in backlash of his people and ended up with his execution. After conducting research, we completed our annotated bibliography. Our primary source “The Rights of Man” gives us a description of the wrongdoings by Louis XVI in the point of view of the citizens. This gives us an inside look into the thoughts of the people towards the king during the beginning of the revolution.
Our vision was to create a website that includes relevant information to King Louis XVI”s reign. In our website, we included a timeline of events during his reign that lead up to his execution. In our website, we added our thesis statement, as well as research we conducted about King Louis. We also plan to add a few videos about Marie Antoinette and how she affected France as well as Louis. The aesthetic part of our website includes the layout. We have it laid out with several different categories/sections. In each section, the background picture was part of the Chateau de Versailles. The way we can use our website to connect the theme to our project is in how we give our information. We used information from our primary and secondary sources to connect our project to the theme.
King Louis and Marie Antoinette undoubtedly bankrupted France. In our source Marie Antoinette - A Biography It stated that Marie Antoinette spent large amounts of money for her personal pleasure. She bought expensive jewelry and clothing. While she was spending all of this money on herself, most of the people were starving. In regards to money, another source we used gave information on the Chateau de Versailles and how it was expensive to build. And while this was all happening, most of the people of France were starving. This created a backlash from the people.
King Louis XVI’s reign is a perfect example to use for a Leadership and Legacy themed project because it was the sole thing he lacked (leadership) and this brought his legacy.
